What Is Notarization?

Notarization is the act of having a document or signature certified by a qualified notary public. A notary public verifies the identity, makes sure that the document was signed of one’s free will, and locks it under an official seal which makes the document valid. This enables the document to be accepted as legally appropriate by courts, embassies, consulates, schools, financial institutions and government bodies.
